Right now we don’t have any document of frequently asked questions, but we will publish it here as soon as possible.
Submarine Hunt can be controlled exclusively by touch or in a mixture of touch and accelerometer. When you touch the icon of the game to launch it, you will see a screen with a big logo in landscape mode. The game will be loading and doesn’t answer in any way to the user.
Once loaded, the logo disappears and you can see the main menu. Whenever you see a menu, you will need to use your finger to use it. To push a button or turn on a switch, tap with your finger quickly on the screen and lift it. To move a menu vertically, touch the screen with your finger, and without lifting it, move it up or down. Even if the menu fits on the screen, you should see a reaction on the screen to the movement.
Most of the widgets of the game are push buttons which you can tap on to use them. There are two special controls that require you sliding the finger on the screen without lifting it. These are the volume control, which you can find in the settings menu, and the record picker and starting level picker.
The volume control reacts to the finger tap only if you touch the part of the graphic that shows the current volume position. Search for a white dot to know where that is. Once you are pushing this button, move your finger left or right without lifting it from the screen to decrease or increase the volume of the game.
To help you set the volume, you will hear a looped sound to feel when the position is right for you. The volume you set inside the game is relative to the volume of your device. If your iPod or iPhone has disabled sound, you can put the volume of the game to 100% and you still won’t hear anything.
The records picker or starting level picker are similar, but here you will have to slide your finger up or down to move the ring that shows the different options you can choose from. The starting level picker allows you to choose at which difficulty level you want to play. The maximum you can choose is the highest level you have reached during a game. In the records picker you will have to rotate the three rings to make them align with the letters representing your initials before saving your record.
From the main menu of the game you can select the first option to enter the instructions mode or play the game. In the instructions mode you will need to follow the indications on the screen tapping on the button on the lower part of the screen when you finish reading a sentence. If you choose to play the game, you will be able to move the ship and launch depth charges.
To control the ship you can use the accelerometer (the default option). With this option you have to rotate your iPod or iPhone to the left or right to make your ship move in one or the other direction. Using this type of input, you can launch depth charges to the left or the right of the ship touching on the left or right parts of the screen. You can think of the whole screen as a big push button. Whenever you lift a finger, if there was a depth charge prepared to be fired, it will be thrown to the sea.
If you play Submarine Hunt in touch mode, the orientation of your device will be irrelevant to the game, so you could play laying down, upside down, or in movement without this affecting the position of the ship. When you activate this type of input, the screen you had divide in two areas to launch depth charges to the left or right, will be subdivided vertically into a total of four areas.
Imagine that the screen of your iPod or iPhone is divided in four rectangles of the same size. If you press the rectangles on the lower part of the screen, you will launch depth charges to the left or right. If you touch the top area of the screen, the ship will move left or right.
Note that the charge launch and movement buttons are independent. You can both move to the right pressing on the top right area of the screen, and at the same time press the bottom right area of the screen to launch a depth charge. However, this is somehow uncomfortable, so we recommend you to play using the accelerometer because you can use your hands to hold the device and use only your thumbs to throw depth charges.
You can leave the game any moment without warning. The game is designed to switch to pause mode automatically. If you exit the game or are interrupted by another activity of your iPod or iPhone, like a calendar alarm or a phone call, you won’t loose your progress.
When you handle the interruption or have again time to play, entering the game you will see that everything is as you left it but the screen shows the special pause menu. In this menu, you can select the first option to continue the game where you left it, or you can choose the second option to abort the game and start a new one.
If instead of being interrupted you exit the game using the physical button of your device, the game will be saved, but while the screen is being scaled down the game is still active. The game won’t be paused until the screen is a small dot, meaning that while you watch the screen shrink, your ship could be damaged by a mine.
To avoid this wait, it is better to tap the menu button located in the top middle of the screen. When you press it the game switches to pause mode immediately, and now if you press the exit button of your iPod or iPhone, you won’t loose any second of your game.
The menu button is always active, whether you are using accelerometer input or touch input. On top of that, since this button is critical due to its nature, it doesn’t turn on when you lift your finger like the other buttons in the game. The menu or pause button is activated at the very first moment you touch its area on the screen.
